What is a LASER?

LASER means amplification of stimulation emission of radiation. Light waves of lasers are monochromatic, coherent, collimated. These waves are absorbed by certain substances which are called as chromophore. Haemoglobin, melanin & water are chromophore in the body. So, laser waves selectively act only on the cells which contain these chromophores. Laser waves do not act on other cells. Thus, Lasers are the target specific & precise in action. When laser waves are absorbed, target cells respond by photochemical, photothermal & photomechanical action. Each laser wave has specific wavelength. Lasers are increasingly used for mild, minor surgical procedures and also for aggressive surgical procedures because these produce high quality results. Healing is fast.
