5.10 Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation ( PIH )is also known as post inflammatory pigment alteration (PIPA)
It appears more in persons having dark skin, acne, eczema, allergic reaction (fixed drug eruption), any injury such as burns, surgical wound, trauma, peels & laser resurfacing after dark skin person.
Pigmentation can be just dark discolouration or it can be in the form of thick layer of black colour simple dark discolouration or stain like dark area. Such pigmentation can be eradicated partially or fully with Nano technology Q-Switch Nd:YAG laser. Person may need 6-10 sittings. Each sitting is given at in gap of 4 to 6 weeks. In certain cases there is dark or blackthicklayer on some part of the skin which is treated initially by skin resurfacing with Ultra-Pulse® fractional Co2 laser or strong chemical peel in 1-3 sittings. Then remaining dark colour tone can be treated with Q Switch Nd: YAG laser.
